PRESENTATION
The International Conference on Geopolitics and Area Studies (GEINK) is a space for academic and social exchange on research and analysis in International Politics, Geopolitics and Area Studies. This first edition was held in Bilbao on 11th, 12th and 13th of September 2024, organised by Department of Political Science of the University of Basque Country (EHU), Geopolitikaz research group and the consolidated research group Parte Hartuz.
The conference was focused on the changes in the struggle for global hegemony, resulting from Western decline in the face of a heterogeneous Global South that is increasingly emancipated economically and politically in the international arena. Hence, the title «When the compass no longer points North». This reality was analysed and discussed by 10 different working groups, with 61 presentations; as well as by four public lectures (by Tica Font, Sani Ladan, Silvina Romano e Irene Zugasti) and three table-discussions (by Itziar Mujika, Iratxe Perea, Borja Macias, Asier Blas, Nahia Sanzo y Aitor Saiz).
